Last year I had the awesome opportunity to head down to Monterey, Mexico as a special guest for the first edition of a Battle of the Boxes competition inspired by the competitions we run at CrossFit Kinnick. I had a great time meeting everyone, judging some heats and cheering for the competitors.  I went down there as a special guest to help support the CrossFit community in Mexico.  This summer I am very excited to announce that I will be returning for the 3rd edition…this time to compete!  The competition calls for teams of 3 men and 2 women so I will be bringing along some of my regionals teammates from Team Kinnick Butter: Danny O’Brien, Nick Robles, Elyse Persico, and my wife, Giermaine Kinnick. Which Food Should I Eat

Everyone has a sweet tooth at some point. Its unfortunate that our bodies crave the very things that make us gain weight, and are in most cases inherently unhealthy. Well, for those moments when you are going to go for it, here, for informational purposes, are a few things you can choose between when taking your pick of fatty foods.

Based on the assumption that you should avoid fat at all costs, however, we often make decisions that may hurt us or impact our dietary efforts negatively in the long run. This list is meant to include a few things that you might not expect, but are no doubt a better consumption than the choice you might have originally made. We’ll also through in a few you might have chosen, and you would have been right.

CocaCola or Diet Coke?Jonathan Globerman, Coke

You may have gone either way on this one. Well, your suspicions are correct. On one hand you’re choosing a smack-down amount of sugar, and on the other hand your dealing with the possibly cancerous preservative aspartame.

A regular12 oz. can of Coke has about 39 grams of sugar. If you’re going for a small 20 oz. bottle, the number is 65 grams of sugar. If you’re not going to use this as a pre-workout supplement and burn it off right afterward, there is no rightful reason to put this amount of sugar into your body; you won’t even feel well afterward!

Our advice is to avoid the sugar and to go for the Diet Coke. While if you are a heavy soda drinker, you may want to cut down on the amount you drink whether it is the cancerous or the sugar-loaded one.

You’ll have the option. What are you missing? Well this one depends actually on what you’re having, if anything, in addition to salad. When you go for the fat free salad dressing, you are cutting yourself off from a few essential vitamins which require a bit of fat to be absorbed by your body.

When usually salad is paired with leafy greens and vegetables, you’re going to get a lot of those vitamins, but not the fat you need to absorb them. For that reason a salad dressing with a little bit of fat is almost the perfect add on to your meal as in the end it helps you absorb the benefits you’re trying to get from the meal.

3 Exercises to Solidify Mental Strength

Choose When and Where You Apply Your Mind

Much like ensuring that you focus on the positive aspects of life, or on solutions, how you expend your mental energy is an essential part of your mental strength.

Even the best of minds can become inefficient if they are spread too thin. The best of the best choose where they apply their mind. A successful entrepreneur is able to select the projects he or she applies themselves to. Just like them, you should be able to select the thoughts and projects to which you apply yourself.

Especially when it comes to worry, be careful that you are not spending all your brainpower on worry. Not only will this drive much needed attention and capability away from what your priorities are, it will additionally introduce the brain-killing effects of stress on the human body. Did you know stress can be more harmful to your health than cigarettes? Leave the stress behind, and focus on the things you love, and the things you want to leave behind.

Learn to Accept Hardship

Whether it is big or small, tragedy or inconvenience, any type of discomfort can take a toll on your mental health. The key here is that you can conquer the feelings and emotions associated with discomfort by accepting them.

Nothing will ever go according to plan. The most prepared handle this by cultivating a state of mind that is prepared to deal with the unexpected, and really a state of mind that views discomfort as an inevitability, and an additional query they can put their mind to. When don’t dwell on what isn’t working, and instead utilize your powers of rationalization and problem solving, you can conquer these feelings before they even arise.

When unaffected by the subjective effect of a “negative” situation, the negative situation becomes instead a conquered box in checklist on your way to accomplishment.

Practice Mindfulness or Transcendental Meditation

We will go over meditation and mindfulness more in a future post, for now, let’s just say that by taking a moment out of your day to become acquainted with the moment, and the subtle sensibilities of living now, can be a refreshing surge of spirit and refocus you may never have known you were capable of summoning.

The type of meditation won’t matter at first. Be mindful that an important principal of meditation is to take it with you, and whether you are “sitting” or not, the “realizations” of meditation are always occurring, and continue you with you after you get up and “begin” your day again.

Hosted by Mike Chang, Sixpack Shortcuts is a valuable exercise video resource which walks you through both the benefits of a few workout tricks and techniques, as well as how to handle your diet as a healthy man. While it is generally intended for a male audience, both men and women can take stock of Mike Chang’s tips and will enjoy his easy going personality.

Why is it on our list? Besides the easy going and effective lessons and demonstrations, Mike Chang’s Sixpack Shortcuts has an air of character and flavor that many fitness channels do not have. While you might have found something that is not simple cut and dry, a testosterone blow out, or an over-zealous workout trainer blasting his regimen in your face, why not find something that is additionally good, and both relaxing and motivating?

Mike Chang adds a lot of personality to his channel by incorporating East Asian culture to his show. Some of it is a bit gimmicky, but what more can you ask for in a fitness channel. All in all, it can be knowingly humorous.

Ok, don’t watch this one with your spouse, or significant other in the room unless you’ve talked about it before hand.

Essentially on BodyRock TV, we have a very fit female fitness guru from Eastern Europe who brings her hard earned work outs to the YouTube screen for your viewing pleasure. …and perhaps so you can use them sometime to. You’ll certainly remember them, anyway.

From ab workouts to full body, high intensity sculpting exercises, BodyRock Tv star Lisa Marie will entice you and give you a reason to keep working on your fitness, and maybe even reach some new heights of physical fitness. All in all, whether you find it inspiring or distracting, there is no doubt that Lisa Marie on BodyRock TV introduces many worthwhile and effective workout techniques and memorable methods for anyone and all.
